In first was Ronald Sigmond on 1283 with Marco Sigmond in second place on 1243 and Jimmy Ravez in third with 1236. The second squad saw a further forty players on the lanes but most watched as Germany's Dirk Baade took the overall lead with 1319 as Dutch international female Nicole Sanders placed second on 1314 including ladies bonus and in third place was Germany's Martina Beckel on 1306
The Dutch pair of Martin Pittens and Lisanne Breeschoten lead the way in the Monday squad. Martin finished on top with 1329 and into the overall lead with Breeschoten in second on 1326 with ladies bonus and good enough to overtake Germany's Dirk Baade for second overall. Third in the Monday squad was Hong Kong's Wu Siu Hong with 1295 followed by countrywoman Vanessa Fung in fourth with 1281.
Just one squad again on Tuesday and it was Hong Kong's Eric Tseng that led the way with 1313 followed by a host of Dutch players including Mark Jacobs in second with 1286, Peter Smits in third with 1283, Menno van den Heuvel in fourth with 1272, Ronold Dol in fifth with 1256 and Wedy Kok in sixth with 1247 including ladies bonus.
Just one squad on Wednesday saw two lefties rise to the top in the first squad of the day. Dutch national Ghislaine van der Toll placed first with 1297 including ladies bonus with Norway's Mads Sandbækken in second on 1267 and Wesley Selier from the Netherlands in third with 1254.
The Thursday fireworks began with Storm Bowling's World Tenpin Master and current Bowler of the year Dominic Barrett smashing in a massive 1491 to lead overall, closely followed by three time EBT champion Osku Palermaa from Finland who is also a Storm Bowling staffer and shot 1475. Both were miles ahead of third placed Michael Kramer from Germany with 1341. In the second squad of the day Norway's Mads Sandbækken lead the way with 1303 followed by Finland's Jouni Helminen in second with 1279 and Dutch star Menno van den Heuvel in third with 1260. Onto the third squad of Thursday and Peter Smits was top this time with 1373 as Denmark's Anders Lousdal placed second with 1326 and Ronald Dol from the Netherlands in third on 1282.
Although he is already leading the event with a massive 1491 Dominic Barrett tried out in squad four of the day and again came out on top but with a lesser 1396 with Sweden's Martin Larsen in second on 1374 and Denmark's Jesper Agerbo in third on 1373. Hong Kong's Wu Siu Hong was to take the second squad of the day with 1326 as England's Paul Moor placing second on 1320 and Frenchman Alexandre Lepolardin third place with 1294. Ontothe last squad of friday and a one two for Sweden as Kim Bolleby placed first on 1336 and Tobias Karlsson in second on 1327 followed by Michell Stinissen in third with 1322.
As everyone chases Dom Barrett and Osku Palermaa, who up to this point are the only players over 1400, Denmark's Thomas Larsen is top in the first squad of Saturday with 1350 with Norway's Mads Sandbækken in second on 1338 and Finland's Juhani Tonteri in third on 1329. Squad 12 saw Germany's Vanessa Timter place first with 1339 including ladies bonus followed by Denmark's Mik Stampe in second on 1321 and Jimmy Dan Mortensen also from Denmark in third with 1302. The final squad before the desperado saw Germany's Bodo Konieczny start with a 289 and ended in first place with 1376 and safely into the finals. Second in the squad was Martin Olsen from Norway with 1327 ans former EBT female champion Britt Brondsted from Denmark in third with 1316 including ladies bonus.
With just four places up for grabs it was to be an exciting desperdo as always. 40 players in a one game shoot out to determine a place in the next round. The Danes really went for it as three of them were to make the finals. Carsten Hansen placed first with 265, Sweden's Ulf Bolleby second on 248 and the other two danes Frederik Ohrgaard 246 and Rikke Holm Rasmussen 246 taking the last two places. Rikke actually tied with Norway's Aleksander Kvinnesland on 237 but her 8 pin ladies bonus gave her the edge to advance further. It's Valentines day but there is no love on the lanes as the bowlers battle it out in a four way two game fight for a place in the final step 2. The top scoring two players from each group continue as the bottom two go home. In group one it's two Dutch players through as Lisanne Breeschoten (431) and Ronald Doll (414) advance with Lisa Kabowski (Germany) and Eric Tseng (Hong Kong) going out. Group 2 saw Menno van den Heuvel (NED) 439 and Martina Beckel (GER) 418 go through with Nicole Sanders (NED) and Anders Lousdal (DEN) going out. Group 3 and it's Sweden's Dennis Eklund (441) and Frenchman Yoan Alix (399) in the next round, with Hong Kong's Vanessa Fung and Wu Siu Hong just missing out. Group 4 has two ladies going through and both EBT champions. Former Champ Britt Brondsted from Denmark leads the way with 423 followed by current EBT champ Nicki Ainge from England on 399 with Dutchman Ronald Sigmond and Denmark's Paul Hutchinson going out. Group 5 and Dutch star Ghislaine van der Toll just missed out on a 300 with a 299 game and posts 499 to win the ground with fellow Dutch player Mark Jacobs second on 462. Germany's Dirk Baade and Norway's Frederik Tjernes leave the event. Group 6 was won by Sweden's Erik Andersin with German Peter Basner in second on 390 and out go two Dutch players Ramon Hilferink and Michell Stinissen. Group 7 is won by England's three time EBT champ Paul Moor with 471 followed by Denmark's Mik Stampe on 432 and we say bye bye to Denmark's Rikke Holm Rasmussen and and Carsten Hansen. The final group 8 saw a close battle with Denmark's Jimmy Dan Mortensen coming out on top with 441 as Sweden's Ulf Bolleby placed second on 432, just ahead of Denmark's Frederik Ohrgaard on 426 and Germany's Marco Baade on 417.
The numbers are now dropping like flies as the second step ended with Denmark's Mik Stampe rolling a fantastic 300 in game two along the way to a 533 total which won group 1 as Sweden's Ulf Bolleby shoots 484. Out goes Germany's Peter Basner and Dutch lady Ghislaine van der Toll. Group 2 and it's the end of the road for England's Paul Moor and The Netherlands Menno van den Heuvel as Lisanne Breeschoten (NED) 497 and Yoan Alix 443 (FRA) advance. Group 3 saw the two ladies EBT champs Nicki Ainge from England (429) and Dane Britt Bronsted (472) through with Swede Erik Andersin and Dane Jimmy Dan Mortensen going out. Group 4 was a tight affair as Sweden's Dennis Eklund won again with 484 followed by Germany's Martina Beckel in second on 443. The two going out were Mark Jacobs and Ronald Dol, both Dutchmen.
More big names fall in Final Step three with Dutchwoman Lisanne Breeschoten and German Vanessa Timter loosing out to Norway's Martin Olsen (481) and Frenchman Yoan Alix (383) in group 1. Group 2 saw the end for Dane Britt Bronsted and Finland's Juhani Tonteri as Dennis Eklund from Sweden with 453 and Kim Bolleby 469 also from Sweden both advancing through to Final Step 4. Group 3 and Nicki Ainge from England goes out with 447 joined by Denmark's Mik Stampe on 413 as Sweden's Tobias Karlsson 459 and Germany's Michael Kramer 470 live to fight another round. In the last group Mads Sandbækken from Norway continues with 421 and Germany's Martina Beckel 357 squeezed into round four as Dutchman Martin Pittens and Swede Ulf Bolleby go out.
The question must be is there anything Dominic Barrett cannot do? Earlier in the event he blasted 1491 and if not for Osku Palermaa would have been miles in front of anyone. Well on Sunday in the fourth round of the finals he fired a fantastic 300 game and followed up with 227 for a 527 and safely through to round 5. Dom was joined in his group by German Martina Beckel with 429 and out went Norway's Martin Olsen and Danish star Thomas Larsen. In other groups Sweden Dennis Eklund 440 and countryman Tobias Karlsson 479 moved on with Dutchman Peter Smits and Swede Martin Larsen leaving the event. Germany's Bodo Konieczny 463 and Norway's Mads Sandbækken 437 fought on with Kim Bolleby from Sweden and Jesper Agerbo from Denmark going out. Finally German Michael Kramer 437 and Frenchman Yoan Alix sent out Norway's Tore Torgersen and, to the shock of many, Finland's three time EBT champ and World Cup winner Osku Palermaa.
Not content with a 300 in round four England's superstar bowler Dominic Barrett was at it again in round five. This time the Dominator rolled a 299 game followed by a 210 for 509 and straight into the final round. Joining him was Sweden's Dennis Eklund, Germany's Martina Beckel and Sweden's Tobias Karlsson as Frenchman Yoan Alix, Germany's Michael Kramer, Norway's Mads Sandbaekken and Germany's Bodo Konieczny went out of the event.
