Kirsten Penny and Mika Koivuniemi elected to Bowling Hall of FameKirsten |Penny from England and Finland’s Mika Koivuniemi have been elected to the World Bowling Writers 2010 Hall of Fame.
Kirsten’s induction ceremony is set to take place just prior to the finals of the Catalonia Open in Barcelona in March, covered by television and also web streaming.
The ceremony for Mika will hopefully be at the Dream Bowl Palace Open in Munich, Germany in April, also with good media coverage.
Kirsten has four gold medals to head an illustrious bowling career, the first in doubles in the 2001 World Games, then she won gold in All Events and Masters in the 2001 European Championships. In the 2003 World Championships in Malaysia she won gold in Doubles and silver in Trios. In addition she won five bronze medals in World Cup, World Championships and World Ranking Masters.
Although well respected as a star bowler in Scandinavia, Mika stormed on to the international scene with two gold, one silver and one bronze medal in the 1991 World Championships in Abu Dhabi. He then took gold in the 1993 World Games and a bronze medal in the 1997 World Championships. He joined the PBA Tour and was therefore not eligible for WBW points until the WTBA opened up international competition to professional bowlers. Mika then picked up more points with team bronze in the 2008 World Championships in Thailand and team silver two years later in Munich.
